In case you’ve somehow managed to avoid the internet or have been living under a rock for the last decade, there’s this little-known author I’d love to introduce to you: Colleen Hoover.
I’ve never really been a “the book was better than the movie” person. Honestly, I usually enjoy both for different reasons. But then I read The Housemaid and it absolutely wrecked that position for me. I was completely hooked. Then I watched the movie and... listen, no shade to Amanda Seyfried, whom I love with my entire millennial heart, but there was just no competing with the version that existed in my head while I was reading it.
Which brings me to Verity. It’s being adapted into a film starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, and trust me, I will be seated. But if you’re even remotely considering it, read the book first.
It’s dark, twisted, deeply unsettling, and one of those stories that will have you looking around your house suspiciously after you finish it.
10/10. Highly recommend.
I get asked about my nails all the time, and while I love a salon appointment as much as the next girl, the reality is that between kids, work, and approximately 47 ongoing projects, I rarely have time to sit in a nail chair for two hours.
So somewhere along the way, I taught myself how to do them at home. Are they perfect? Absolutely not. Have I gotten weirdly good at it? Also yes.
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with a red French tip moment—classic, a little bit spicy, and just enough sparkle to satisfy my inner magpie.
This woman’s music has completely gotten under my skin in the best way. She’s only 21, but she writes with a level of clarity, conviction, and self-awareness that took a lot of us much longer to find. Her lyrics feel more like poetry than songs sometimes, and she has this rare ability to put words to things so many women are thinking but don’t always say out loud.
Maybe I’m romanticizing it, but growing up in the early 2000s, it often felt like female artists were allowed to express themselves only within very specific boundaries—carefully packaged versions of rebellion approved by people in boardrooms. Social media has obviously created its own set of problems, but it has also opened the door for artists who don’t fit a predetermined mold. Artists like Sofia Isella feel less interested in being palatable and more interested in being honest.
As a woman and a mother raising a daughter, that gives me a lot of hope. 🖤
Turns out I am, in fact, influenceable.
The internet—or at least my corner of it—completely lost its mind when we discovered that Billie Eilish’s signature lip look comes courtesy of SACHEU Beauty’s peel-off lip stain in the shade nOOHde. Naturally, I had to investigate.
If you follow me on social media, you already know I’ve become a full-blown SACHEU fangirl. (If you don’t feel free to give a follow @ShenaeGrimesBeech) Not because they’re paying me (they’re not), but because every time I try one of their products, it somehow earns a permanent spot in my routine. The lip stain is no exception.
It’s one of those rare beauty products that actually lives up to the hype—which, let’s be honest, is becoming increasingly rare these days. Billie was right. The internet was right. I hate when that happens.
The annual Beech Family Summer Vacation is in full swing. As is a record breaking heat wave in Europe. . . This leave-in conditioner has been an absolute lifesaver for my hair as we’ve traveled across the UK.
Now you know the things currently bringing me joy, making me think, influencing me against my will, or otherwise refusing to leave my brain.
If you’ve got a book I need to read, a song I need to hear, a beauty product I don’t need but will absolutely buy anyway, or a random obsession currently consuming your personality, drop it in the comments!
I’m always looking for new ways to lose the plot. Until next time. 🖤
xx, Shenae
