Nerve Ending
by Shea Stanley
I thought of you today
The sky yours
Easy to think of you now
Icy fingers
Paint water sky
I pretend to like the grey
What I mean is
It’s in my bones
What I mean is
Praise me
I forget to tell people
Always think they can see the mist
Still resting on my scalp
Thought you were still stuck
To my shoe
People ask if I miss you
If I liked you
How to answer
Do I like my lungs?
I need them to breathe
I don’t think of you often
I don’t think of my skin
I don’t think of the air
I’m just enveloped
Covered
So when I do think of you
Panic!
Like I left the stove on
Like I missed a birthday
Like I forgot where I put you
But I thought of you today
And I felt it
Cement under my feet
Ticking clock in the clouds
You’re in my bones
