Running a business and having small children is nothing short of busy. That’s everyday for me but somehow each day I carve out silence, this is my mornings. I’m one of those morning people, always have been and normally pop out of bed between 4-5am. I genuinely go to sleep looking forward to my quiet mornings with coffee the next day. This is when I do all my writing and reading or like this week quietly shave down chair parts before employees pop in and start up machines. This week I had one employee on vacation and one had a short week so the shop was calmer than usual besides Landon was in making some white oak mantles for a customer the first part of the week. I’m very backed up on doing sketches and quotes for customers and had to go and do 3 customer house calls for measurements.
I worked on chairs most of the week. Building 3 of the Lefkowitz/Cannizzaro 2 slat chairs. 2 are in walnut. When I put together kits I often end up with rear legs that have minor failures in the bends, small surface cracks.
90% of the time they are fine and are cut out during shaping but I don’t like sending that to a customer and risk an issue so I save them back on a shelf for myself. They have been accumulating so I turned some into chairs. These chairs do not have customers so they will be available for sale once I weave the bark seats. One of them will come with me to Handworks in a few weeks.
I also made 2 slat chair in Ailanthus, That will be its own post but here it is finished read to weave the seat.
