Observations of a Reluctant Mystic: — a journey into awakening
This article is only for you if you are trying to figure out how to be awakened to your true nature beyond the sense of self. If this describes you, I hope it helps…
I’ve been writing articles and books for years with only one main area of focus: Spiritual Enlightenment — also known as the awakened state, the natural state, moksha, illumination, and so on. I spent decades delving into what the gurus of Advaita and Vedanta have called self-inquiry, and my goal ultimate began more than 60 years ago — to find out what I actually am and to know why the world seems like such an insane place to me.
I began my lifetime of strange and otherworldly experiences unwittingly at age six or perhaps younger, by having out-of-body experiences (OBEs) that have unceasingly continued up until the present day. In my 30s I began practicing to have these experiences occur on purpose instead of randomly, and after a couple of months I began having out of body experiences several times a week. Over the course of my life I have had more than a thousand OBEs and I described a handful of them in my most recent book. What these experiences taught me is that reality is not limited to the physical world and that there are other realities, otherworldly beings, dark force entities, life after life, indescribable places, a way to travel that defies ideas about time and space, and so on. However, my out-of-body experiences did not bring me any closer to knowing who I really am. In fact, I realized that they could be just another distraction, so I stopped focusing on them. When they happen they happen. And they still occur from time to time, once every couple of months or so.
From the intellectual to the realization
What my out of body experiences had shown me was that my experiences are my own. They are completely subjective, and while I may be able to try to explain what they are like, I cannot adequately find the words to convey to another person what the experience actually is.
