Spiritual Psychologist supporting Human Intelligence in the age of AI. Technically correct bio, completely silent about the dry humor and the cosmic wink that had become a Shannon signature.
I recently crossed the one-year mark on Substack. I started from zero and spent the whole first year working solely by intuition: what felt right, what landed. Somewhere in the process, I found a voice that sounds like me.
So I decided to see what would happen if I asked an expert to hold a mirror up to the brand I’d built.
JHong is a marketing strategist who has spent 20 years helping shape brands for a living, think Banana Republic and Ralph Lauren. We found each other on Substack and ended up at an in-person boozy brunch in San Francisco, which is where I made my move. I asked her to analyze my publication as if it were a brand she works with.
What came back was an entire diagnostic system. She used me as the case study.
I read the evaluation and felt it land before I’d finished the first section.
My archetype is The Suppressor. Someone who has a voice and portions it. The platform wasn’t rewarding my qualifications. It was rewarding my voice.
Jen’s analysis yielded my publication’s north star sentence: Half pattern recognition, half cosmic wink — she finds the name for what you were already living.
My version became: Half psychology, half cosmic wink. Naming the patterns you’ve been sensing.
It’s not perfect. It will eventually evolve, but it is so much closer.
Jen’s first article lays out the full archetypal framework. Start there. Her second goes deep into my data, including the north star sentence prompt. It’s paywalled, but Jen agreed to let me share it here. Download the PDF below and run the prompt on your own publication data.
The full live video is above — all one hour of it. Worth watching at 2x.
Run the prompt. See what comes back.
Kindest,
Shannon
Have you been operating more on intuition or strategy? I’d love to know! Leave it in the comments.
The Flow Room — Round One opens July 19.
Most Substackers spend months circling their paid tier. Tweaking it in private. Waiting to feel ready.
If that sounds familiar, The Flow Room is for you.
Twelve weeks. Monthly coaching reads, group Zooms, a private community, and a one-on-one strategy call for annual members.
You come in thinking about your own paid tier. Somewhere in the first call, you start rooting for everyone else’s too.
Writing is a solo sport. What comes next doesn’t have to be.
Early rate closes July 19: $50/year or $5/month.
Moves to $80 and $10 after.
