Draw yourself as...

Saturday was a cold but beautiful day here in Paris as I traveled to a scenic little café on canal de l’Ourcq for my second meetup of the Paris Pigeons, an international group of illustrators and artists. The two hours flew by and I ended up enjoying the theme of “self portraits” much more than I anticipated because it provided something I’d been craving: prompts. One of my goals this year is to practice drawing from imagination more, but often I feel stuck on what to draw, especially if it’s not a comic. Having someone else come up with some fun and silly ideas to riff off of made using my imagination feel easy and enjoyable.

Sometimes your weird, fun inner child just needs a little kick start.

Materials used:

• Pens: Tombow pens from Magasin Sennelier, BIC Roundstic ballpoint pen in black, Pentel Color Pen Fine Point in black

• Faber Castell polychromos colored pencils

• Cambridge Imprint patterned paper purchased from L’Ecritoire Paris
