This past weekend my fiancé and I watched the new season of Reacher.
A few episodes of season 5 of House of Cards.
And the newest episode of Lioness.
One thing they all had in common?
They all required a producer.
He doesn’t write it.
He doesn’t act in it.
He doesn’t hold the camera.
He doesn’t even put up the money.
Great script first, because a weak script won’t attract an A-list actor.
No A-list actor, no serious investor.
No serious investor, no money for a big director.
No big director, no blockbuster.
Four jobs. He does none of them.

A producer who tried to do all four jobs would still be on page one of the script years later.
Most people try to make the movie.
Build the product. Build the audience. Build the funnel. Learn the ads.
Then, finally, make money.
That’s four full-time jobs stacked on a life that’s already full.
So it waits for a slower season that never shows up.
Good income. Real skills. A job or a business that works.
And a folder on the desktop with a half-finished course in it since last spring.
Domain bought. Logo done.
Nothing in there has sold a dime.
Somebody already wrote the script…
…meaning an offer that’s proven and already sells.
Somebody already has the cast…
…meaning an audience that trusts them.
Both are sitting there doing nothing on a Tuesday.
Attention is the box office line.
A line forms because there’s a release date.
