Every year I have a marvellous time at the du Maurier Fowey Literary Festival. One of the highlights for me is running reading groups, where around 20 of us sit and drink coffee and discuss one of du Maurier’s books. It’s always a huge pleasure to chat with other people who have different views on the books, and I always come away inspired. I don’t have a big list of questions each time, but I do have a couple of pages of notes with questions to keep the conversation going, if need be. I thought these might be of use to others, so if you ever want to run a Daphne du Maurier reading group, feel free to use one of the downloadable pdfs below!
If you’re interested in du Maurier’s novels, you might enjoy this transcript of my talk ‘Villainesses, Femmes Fatales, Matriarchs and Muses: Du Maurier's Heroines’, in which I foolishly attempted to discuss all of du Maurier’s heroines in 50 minutes.
