Catherine Goldberg · Senior Savvy Cannabis

I can really only think about one thing at a time. Fully, deeply, obsessively think about it. And since September 5, 2024, that one thing has been cannabis.

Every day. Every post. Terpenes, receptors, dosing, your questions, my own grow. Almost two years of one channel, running at full volume, with nothing else allowed to compete for the airtime.

That’s not sustainable, and it’s not about running out of ideas. I have plenty. It’s simpler than that.

It’s called habituation, and it’s one of the oldest, most basic things a nervous system does. When you only feed your brain one input, no matter how interesting that input is, it eventually stops registering it as interesting at all.

The first time you smell coffee in the morning, you notice it. By the fourth cup, you don’t smell it at all — not because it stopped being there, but because your brain decided it already knew what it was, and stopped spending energy registering it.

Your brain does this with almost everything that repeats. It’s efficient. It’s also, if you’re trying to see something freshly, a problem.

Nearly two years in, I can feel it happening to me. Not burnout, exactly. More like the coffee I can’t smell anymore.

The research on this is consistent: the fix isn’t pushing harder, and it isn’t finding a new angle on the same subject. It’s actually stepping away. New input. Different scenery. Room for something other than cannabis to occupy the one channel my brain has.

So that’s what I’m doing.

No new blog posts. No new content. Just me, stepping back from the desk for a week, letting my brain do the thing brains need to do to see clearly again.

I’ll be back in September with fresh eyes and, I suspect, better posts because of it.

Here’s the thing about 500+ posts — most of you have only read a fraction of them.

There’s a search bar right on the blog. Use it. Type in whatever you’re actually dealing with — sleep, pain, anxiety, a specific terpene you keep hearing about, a question you’ve been sitting on — and see what comes up. Chances are good I’ve already written about it.

Consider it a scavenger hunt through two years of me trying to answer exactly the questions you have.

A few of you have asked how you can support this work, so here’s an honest answer instead of a vague one.

The simplest thing costs nothing: subscribe to the blog if you haven’t, and share a post with someone you think needs it. If daily emails are too much, you can switch your settings to a weekly digest instead — same content, just gathered up once a week instead of showing up in your inbox every day.

If you want to support this financially, the best way is through YouTube. Subscribing, watching, and sharing those videos genuinely moves the needle more than almost anything else I could ask for — it's how this work reaches more people, and it's free for you to do. If you want to go a step further, there's also a YouTube membership option now, for anyone who wants to support the channel directly.

If there’s someone in your life who’s curious about cannabis but hasn’t taken the first step — a friend who’s struggling with sleep, a sibling managing chronic pain, anyone who keeps saying “I should look into that” and never does — you can gift them a Savvy Relief session.

Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for someone is remove the first, hardest step for them. They don’t have to figure it out alone, and they don’t have to wait until they’re desperate enough to finally ask.

Here’s what I sat with while thinking about this break.

I spend so much time inside this world — terpenes, receptors, dosing, COAs — that I forget something basic: most adults are suffering in some way, and most of them are not using cannabis. Not because it wouldn’t help. Because nobody ever handed them a real, honest way in.

I think about what it would look like if that flipped. If the plant were the first thing people reached for, not the last. If “have you tried adjusting your ratio” came before “have you tried a third medication.” I don’t know if I’ll see that world. But until I do, I’m going to keep doing exactly what I’ve been doing for 500+ posts: speaking out, and helping people find their way to the plant a little sooner than they otherwise would have.

I’ll see you in September.
