Monthly postcards are my roundup of everything lately – what’s on repeat, what’s cooking, what travel is next.

June! I’m writing about June half-way through July!? Yeah – that’s just the kind of month it’s been.

June was green – all green

On Repeat.

  • Morning sunshine ASAP. Pour the coffee, grab the door – we’re headed to the patio for full morning light. It’s been so healing to have slower summer mornings. Living in New York, this sort of privacy mixed with trees swaying in the wind and morning song, this feels like a luxury.

  • Reading: The Correspondent. I’m a slow reader (unfortunately) and I’ve been chipping away at this one. But, YES, it lives up.

  • Following the small voice that’s telling you something. What’s not working? What do you miss? What are you hoping for and aren’t getting? Follow that voice. (More on that soon…)

Highlights.

  • My quick trip to San Diego was so much fun. I’m a first time Auntie! I finally got to meet my precious baby nephew. It was such a meaningful few days for me. For us. He’s the smiliest, giggliest lil’ guy in the world.

  • I bought my first original painting – large scale! Coming back after San Diego, I went to an art fair, and was completely entranced by these abstracts with cotton candy skies and bold reds, blues, purples. I brought this beautiful pink-roofed barn home with me.

Field Trips.

  • Mini golf in a sculpture garden. Amongst all the metal, wooden, and repurposed sculpture art, there were baby goats hanging out demanding pets and attention.

  • Obtained delicious vegan soft serve from a co-op (Missing Dreamery in Brooklyn. UPDATE: upon typing that sentence, I found out it’s permanently closed?! I can’t believe this.)

  • We swung into a legendary vegan deli that’s been around for ages, grabbed massive sandwiches, drove to a quiet park, sat on a bench to watch the baby ducks swim in the pond.

On the Books.

New York is around the corner. I’m excited, and nervous. Nervous because going back after having lived somewhere leaves a strange pang in your chest. It always does. There’s a sense of lost ownership, and with that, grief.

This summer, while we have it still, I want to prioritize the road. Run off on day trips. Tuck in for one-nighter trips. Hike. Sip hot coffee. Pack cold sandwiches. Bike around town. Eat cherries and apples and homemade granola and dip into freezing waterfalls and dry out in the warm sun. That’s summer. Thankfully, that’s all within an arm’s reach now.

See you next Month 💌
