I saw Akira Kurosawa's Ran at the theater today. Even though I knew the film was an adaptation of King Lear, I was surprised in just how many ways the film lined up with the play beat for beat. It's still a work in progress, but I've finally got my weblog up—I have a pretty bad habit of letting perfect be the enemy of good. I'm using the Astro static-site generator, which I haven't used before, so I'm learning as I go. For the design of the blog, I've taken a lot of inspiration from the websites at the Web Design Museum.
I've built an archive of more than 800 web banner ads from the late 1990s and early 2000s. You can sort the ads by source, advertiser, image resolution, subject and file type. These advertisements span the emergence of the early commercial internet and are a rich historical resource.
I got my tools out and ripped one of the wood assets from a screenshot of the old Apple Newsstand app and took some wallpaper and redid how my shelves look. It's all fully responsive/mobile friendly too! Check it out :) I'll publish my book reviews soon—after I figure out how I want those pages to look.
