Seed Library Network · Cool Beans! 🫘

We’re excited to introduce a set of seed library zines designed to help you connect with your community, increase participation, and boost donations. These one-page, four-panel zines are easy to use and perfect for programs like Grow a Row and One Seed, One Community.

How they work: (Explanatory video)

  • Front cover: Displays the crop’s common name, varietal name, and space for the grower’s name and year. This panel also doubles as a seed return label.

  • Inside left panel: Provides complete planting instructions—from sunlight and spacing requirements to isolation distances. It also covers when to plant, seed life, and how to know when seeds are mature.

  • Inside right panel: Contains a seed packet and clear donation instructions. You can offer two donation options:

    1. Return unprocessed seeds (like unshelled beans or overripe cucumbers) for library processing. This can be a fun community event, like a work party or class.

    2. Return fully processed seeds with step-by-step cleaning instructions provided in the zine.

  • Back cover: Space to add additional program information, website, or hours.

Access the Zines!

These zines make it easy for community members to adopt a crop, steward it through the season, and return seeds to the library—helping grow both your seed collection and community connections. Here are the versions in Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
