Sarah Li-Cain · Searching For Enough

Hello and welcome to Searching For Enough, where we question how much of what we strive for was shaped by external messaging, and the belief that we’re not enough. I’m a writer and longtime meditator who uprooted her life 5+ times and survived. Join the community of those who are all striving for their version of ‘enough.’

Last, week I wrote about how the mundane moments are what make up a life and that if we give pause to them, it’ll help us be more in tune with ourselves.

An exercise I like to do is to try and take daily-ish photos and reflect on what it is about that particular scene I found compelling enough to document it

Ah yes, a humble bowl of chicken noodle soup. But I made this in Marseille when my family and I were traveling throughout Europe for several months and got sick as soon as we arrived at our accommodations there.

I was so thankful we had a kitchen and a large grocery store within a 10 minute walk from where we were staying. I somehow managed to have the energy to grab ingredients to make three days worth of chicken noodle soup. This photo captured the moment before I started eating and watching one of my favorite movies.

It was a reminder that it’s worth it to take care of yourself.

My son and I missed gardening so much we got a small hydroponic contraption. I captured this right before I pruned what is supposed to be a dwarf variety. As in, it wasn’t supposed to grow more than 6 to 8 inches.

I wanted to capture this moment, as it made me miss my old garden in Florida. It helped to resolve my conviction to find either a plot in a community garden, or help out with a nonprofit growing food for folks in the neighborhood. Digging my hands in the dirt was such a healing experience for the kiddo and I.

Looked like someone was trying to add some beauty in what feels like an ugly sight (fixing a sidewalk). The flower felt like such a gift to any stranger who chanced upon its path. Makes me wonder what small action I can take to give a smile to a stranger’s face in the future, even if I don’t get to see it.

The light hitting this plant on a walk reminds me moments of awe and enchantment are everywhere, as long as you look for them.
