Sarah Li-Cain · Searching For Enough

Llamas at the Pittsburgh Zoo

Hello and welcome to Searching For Enough, where we question how much of what we strive for was shaped by external messaging, and the belief that we’re not enough. I’m a writer and longtime meditator who uprooted her life 5+ times and survived. Join the community of those who are all striving for their version of ‘enough.’

Hello! I feel like there’s not much to report around here? Maybe except for the fact that this will officially be the first summer where the family and I officially gone on any long trips away. And it feels nice to relax (only a little bit because I’ve been battling some stomach illness and a weird cold) but also weird because we’re all restless. The intention is to go out into the community more to meet new folks and see what’s around us, so we’ll see how that goes.

As I’m continuing to figure out how to better implement the Perspectives of Enough series, it also sparked some other ideas to help make this Substack for useful for you all. I know many of you love the thoughtful questions I put forth (and hopefully my perspectives on other things?!) so should I continue with that? Maybe make some guides on what you can do to find our version of enough (without being preachy)? Let me know in the comments!

In the meantime, I’ve got bazillions of drafts - some of these topics include money (!), building a community, and making big changes in life.

  • I love Ursula perspective about what exactly is spare time, especially when you’re no longer working.

  • Yes to Jenna Park ‘s piece on not needing more stuff. I feel like living in a smaller space now (and still trying to get used to how we live in it) makes more clutter that drives me nuts. And my financial situation is as a result of not feeling like I need to go buy a new outfit every week.

  • I am avoiding BookTok and Bookstagram for book recs (I can’t be bothered changing my algorithm so I’m not getting the same five book recommendations), so this list looks very interesting to me (here’s the summer 2026 version too)

  • Interesting article and proposing work on the Nature Relationship Index (that will hopefully stay) and how humankind can hopefully use the data to create a better relationship with nature and thrive in the process

  • This piece by Michelle on 12 ways that you may have outgrown your life called me out (though to be fair, I have a hard time accepting compliments pretty much all the time).

  • Purchased a Nespresso machine as a present for the husband, and trying these out so we can use them with beans from our local roastery

What am I obsessed with this month, and why?
