Good morning premium subscribers, today is Monday, August 17 — Two rounds of storms last night caused wind damage and some flooding — mostly in Chesterfield County.
What’s changed since Friday morning’s forecast: The tropics have gone quiet, and the chance for showers and storms is much lower tomorrow and Wednesday.
The top points for Richmond this morning:
Storm review: Heaviest rain from last night’s storms extended from Brandermill, eastward along Route 288, and into Chesterfield Court House, where 4-5 inches of rain was common. Thomas Dale High School measured 4.82”, the highest reported total as of 7am. Outside of that area, more than 2 inches fell from Midlothian, through Chester, and Hopewell. Areas north of the James River averaged 0.75 to 1.50 inches. In addition to road flooding, numerous trees came down in the communities around Swift Creek Reservoir.
