Sean Fitzgerald · Sean’s Substack

I’ve found a couple of interesting things the last few months of writing in public. I’ve concluded that in the format I’ve set up, it’s not for me, so I’ll be stopping the regularly scheduled programming and maybe occasionally posting when I have something relevant to say. This is not the way of substack, so I’ll likely be shutting this down.

First off, thanks for reading, if you read. I hope you got some value out of what I wrote, though my best work here was retreading ground covered during my time at Stripe, so it was probably nothing new.

As for why I’m stopping, the primary reason is that I’m not happy with the quality of content I’m putting out. I set up artificial deadlines to keep myself publishing (with a 2 week cadence), but even with multiple months of lead time picking topics and working on early drafts, I feel constantly rushed to write about an arbitrary topic on which I have a mild opinion. During my tenure at Stripe when I was writing regularly, it was more akin to self-centered reporting, so I had a lot of content (my current events) and a lot of opinions.

For the time being, I’m going to take the time I’m reclaiming and put it back into tinkering — I love to build little things (be it games, or automatons, or now small D&D campaigns for my kids), and I think that’s going to bring me more joy than trying to crank out something better than an LLM would generate late on Monday night.

Cheer!
