Terminator 2: Judgment Day stars Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick have reunited after 35 years.
In 1991, the two actors first worked together on Terminator 2, which arrived seven years after the first movie. Furlong starred as John Connor, the 10-year-old son of Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor, while Patrick played the T-1000, the android assassin made of shapeshifting liquid metal. Though John and the T-1000 were at odds, Furlong and Patrick were nothing but friendly with each other in a new photo.
Patrick shared said photo on X, showing him and Furlong smiling in the back of a car, with the caption, “Found John Connor in London. Turns out the T-1000 just needed a plane ticket.” Both of them are in England’s capital city to appear at For the Love of Sci-Fi and Fantasy’s Excel London fan convention. It’s unclear how Furlong and Patrick ran into each other, but they’re clearly enjoying each other’s company.
Terminator 2 takes place 10 years after The Terminator, which ended with Sarah becoming pregnant with John after her short-lived romance with Kyle Reese. Now an adolescent, John has been placed in a foster home after his mother was institutionalized for her attempts to prevent Judgment Day on August 29, 1997. When Skynet sends the T-1000 back to 1995 to kill John, the adult John from 2029 counters by sending a reprogrammed T-800, reprised by Arnold Schwarzenegger, to protect his younger self.
The cast of Terminator 2 also includes Earl Boen reprising Dr. Peter Silberman, and Joe Morton as Miles Dyson, director of special projects at Cyberdyne Systems Corporation. The sequel opened in theaters on July 3, 1991, and was a critical and commercial success. Box office-wise, Terminator 2 made around $520 million worldwide, nearly seven times what The Terminator made in 1984, and cementing it as the highest-grossing movie of 1991.
On the critical reception side of things, Terminator 2: Judgment Day was widely praised just like its predecessor, if not more so. It also earned accolades like winning four Academy Awards, five Saturn Awards, and two BAFTAs. ScreenRant’s retrospective review of Terminator 2 described it as a “near-perfect sequel” and “a masterpiece in successful storytelling and lore expansion.”
35 years after its release, Terminator 2 is still often considered the best movie in the franchise, but it was also the only time that Furlong and Patrick starred in a Terminator movie. While Edward Furlong’s likeness was used as a “reference” for Terminator: Dark Fate, John was fully played by Nick Stahl in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation, Thomas Dekker in the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Jason Clarke in Terminator Genisys. Patrick, on the other hand, did make a cameo as the T-1000 in Wayne’s World 2 and Last Action Hero.
The Terminator franchise is currently stuck in limbo, as plans to make sequels to Terminator: Dark Fate were scrapped following the movie’s commercial underperformance. As of December 2025, franchise creator James Cameron was still working on a Terminator reboot, but it remains to be seen if the project will actually move forward. Terminator 2: Judgment Day can be streamed on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
