New details revealed about “The Magic of Disney Animation”

Disney revealed a wave of new details about “The Magic of Disney Animation,” a “collection of experiences” inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios and the Emmy Award-winning short film Once Upon A Studio opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in late summer.

Disney also released the official names for several of the new experiences guests will encounter inside the reimagined building, including “Drawn to Wonderland,” “Off the Page!,” “Olaf Draws!” and the “Once Upon A Studio Theater.”

One of new reveals is “Drawn to Wonderland,” an immersive indoor Alice in Wonderland-themed playground designed for younger children. Inspired by Mary Blair’s original concept art for the animated classic, the space will include areas themed to the Mad Tea Party, the Mad Hatter’s house, the Queen of Hearts’ rose garden and the mysterious Tulgey Wood.

Disney says the environment is designed around active play, exploration and climbing.

Disney also shared additional details about “Off the Page!,” a walkthrough area themed to different stages of the animation process where guests can meet Disney characters inside stylized animation studio environments.

One fun detail: Rapunzel’s meet-and-greet in the “Layout” section is located in the exact spot where Tangled director Byron Howard’s office once stood during the Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida era. The area itself is inspired by the classic multiplane camera.

Other character locations include Mulan in “Story,” Donald and Daisy in “Computer Animation,” Goofy in “Lighting,” Stitch in “Effects,” and Chip ’n’ Dale in “Hand-Drawn Animation.”

Disney also said that “Olaf Draws!” will feature a new Olaf Audio-Animatronics figure guiding guests through drawing lessons alongside recorded stories and tips from Disney animators. Disney described the experience as “laugh-filled” and designed to inspire future artists.

Outside the building, Disney says the reimagined courtyard itself now includes hidden character details and environmental storytelling elements inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios lot in Burbank, including locations like “Pluto’s Corner” and interactive surprises involving characters playing in trees, digging in the grass and appearing throughout the area.

Disney also confirmed the attraction will feature a newly named “Once Upon A Studio Theater” showing the short film that inspired the project, alongside an enchanted art gallery featuring exclusive new character animations created specifically for the experience.

“The Magic of Disney Animation” opens late summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
