Focused on Mississippians, not on D.C.

Symone Sanders Townsend recently wrote an article for MSNOW where she made the case that there’s no exact formula for winning elections. What works in one state won’t work in another. But if you have a candidate and campaign that resonates with the voters in their state, you have a real chance to win.

What campaign did she point to as an example? Our campaign right here in Mississippi.

I’m proud of what we’ve built. We’ve been intentional to make sure that the voices of Mississippians are put before any pundit or special interest in D.C.

This campaign is focused on the concerns of the voters of Mississippi. Not what the national talking heads are saying. What matters to a working family in Waynesboro is far more important to me than some talking point being spewed in Washington.

And while that means our race may fly under the radar, it doesn’t mean that we don’t have a chance to win. In fact, it means the opposite.

Together, we’ve built a tidal wave of momentum: polling shows we’re in a statistical tie with Cindy Hyde-Smith, and according to last quarter’s public reports, we DOUBLED Cindy Hyde-Smith’s fundraising. But this doesn’t mean the race is over.

We’re still facing a massive fundraising disadvantage. Cindy Hyde-Smith is sitting on an enormous warchest built by billionaires that don’t give a damn about Mississippi. And she’s going to unleash it to spread lie after lie about me and our campaign.

But if we’ve proven anything up to this point, it’s that our grassroots team is stronger than Cindy Hyde-Smith and her special interest billionaire backers will ever be.
