A couple quick announcements at the top, before I get around to sharing audio from my weekly radio appearance on WTKA with Sam Webb and Ira Weintraub from earlier this week.
First, today was going to be the day I rolled out Part 6 of my Big Ten positional season preview series (a look at LBs). I’m actually going to bump that (as well as Part 7 on DBs) to next week. The eighth and final installment will be my overall team rankings, which will serve as the first of my weekly power rankings newsletters, and that will run on the week of Michigan’s first actual game on the day when my weekly power rankings will typically drop (probably Thursday, 9/3).
In case you missed any of the first five newsletters, you can find links to each installment that has published so far below:
Another thing to keep your eyes out for as we get closer and closer to the Michigan football season actually kicking off: my preseason roundtable that shares the predictions of 15-20 or so of your favorite members of the Michigan media will be coming soon, too. And even though Week 0 isn’t a Michigan football week, I’ll begin my season-long weekly picks and predictions as part of my viewing guide next week, too.
And finally, a non-newsletter plug for those of you in the Dallas-Fort Worth area: Tomorrow at 11 am, I’ll be the featured speaker for the U-M Dallas Alumni Club’s 2026 Football Kickoff event at The Brass Tap in North Dallas. This has turned into one of my favorite annual events each August and I’m hopeful to see some familiar faces in attendance. It’s free to attend, but please RSVP for the sake of preparation. While it’s a free event, guests are encouraged to consider donating to the club’s scholarship fund. Past events have typically gone on for about two hours, if that helps with planning. You can read more about it HERE.
With all that out of the way, here’s audio from my WTKA appearance from earlier in the week. With Sam out on vacation this week, it was just me and Ira chatting on Monday, with most of the questions centering around the start of football season and whether or not Michigan can vault itself into the Ohio State/Oregon/Indiana tier of teams.
You can listen to that 15-minute audio clip HERE.
