We covered a lot of ground during Monday appearance on WTKA with Sam Webb and Ira Weintraub. Not surprisingly, Michigan’s retention efforts in the aftermath of Dusty May’s NBA departure was a major topic of conversation, and we spent the first half of the chat talking about the great work Mike Boynton has done keeping players in the fold while he runs things in an interim basis. But we also talked about Michigan’s huge recruiting win on the gridiron, plucking blue chip DB Monsanna Torbert Jr. out of the Buckeye State. And for good measure, we even talked a little World Cup at the end.

A programming note: I still have one more edition of the U-M fan survey analysis to deliver. That should come in the next day or two — I’ve been chasing a story that could be a really nice supplement to some of the questions about the U-M athletic department and its leadership. But it’s tough getting locked down and I don’t want to spend too much time chasing things down if it’s going to cause a logjam for all other preview material.

Once that series is over, I’ll pivot to an 8-part season preview series breaking down all major position groups across the Big Ten.

Here’s a recap of the first three parts of the U-M fan survey series, in case you’ve missed any installments:

  • Part 1: A look at new coach Kyle Whittingham, the staff he has put together and how things are going in the early stages of the Whittingham era. You can view that in its entirety HERE ($).

  • Part 2: A look at your expectations and predictions for the upcoming season. You can view that in its entirety HERE ($).

  • Part 3: A dozen questions centered around specific players and personnel groups. We’ll have your picks for the 10 most valuable Wolverines on the roster, the five freshmen you’re most excited about, the five incoming transfers you’re more excited about and much more. You can view that in its entirety HERE ($).
