Hi, Tomas here, I prepared this article for you to lighted up your mood, pun intended.
Let’s go
Enjoying the nerdiness?
I also make science T-shirts at ScienceFunn. If you want something appropriately nerdy to wear while explaining to people that Newton didn’t actually discover gravity because an apple hit him on the head, take a look 😄
Every purchase also helps support this newsletter and keeps the science memes free.
P.S. If you want to support the newsletter, my science shirts are here → ScienceFunn.
If you voted yes, please give this post a like and restack if possible, spread the lightening up. :)
Besides just memes, there are some cool light facts:
Newton thought light was a particle. Huygens thought it behaved like a wave. Somehow, a few centuries later, they both ended up being partly right, for nothing, haha, just kidding, serious stuff.
Light doesn’t experience time in the normal sense. From our perspective, sunlight takes about 8 minutes 20 seconds to reach Earth. From the core it might take even 100,000 years. Quite a history.
You can slow light down dramatically in matter. The famous speed of light limit refers to light in a vacuum.
A single photon can produce an interference pattern when you repeat the double-slit experiment many times — one of the strangest demonstrations of quantum behavior.
Light has momentum despite having no rest mass. That’s why concepts like solar sails work.
Most of the light in the universe is invisible to us. Human eyes detect only a tiny portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Enjoy the rest of your day,
Tomas
