Singles Only: Bullion — “Roo”

New series alert! Here at The Hobbyist we are music obsessives, and while the regular ol’ in-cycle Q+A can be a delightful treat, I wanted to make something both more substantial and quicker hitting. So, I present to you, my loyal readers: Singles Only. The premise is simple. Once a week, I will connect with an artist or band who has recently released an excellent single. We will discuss said single. I will put a transcription of that single onto this website, alongside a brief introduction about why that single is worth your time. Today, the series begins with “Roo” from Bullion, which was released on July 28. The track will be featured on songwriter Nathan Jenkins’ new LP, Nearly, set to arrive on September 25 via the inimitable Ghostly International. Jenkins references Joan Didion and Robert Creeley; includes an instrument that sounds suspiciously like a pedal steel (a delight!); and taps into that sticky sweet substratum of psych-pop that has become the soup de jour of musical geniuses everywhere.
