Dancing with Dad

Leaning toward my father has led to the deepest healing of my life. I’ve turned my learnings into a workshop, Dancing With Dad, to help people reflect on their own relationships with their fathers.

Wednesday, June 17th at 3pm Eastern, I’ll lead the workshop for free on Zoom.

Five years ago, my mom left my dad. He was seventy-nine. In some ways, I met him for the first time then—in the absence of Mom’s warmth and care. It seemed like all he did was work.

Can’t you see me, I wondered? Don’t you want to know me as a man? We were facing each other, but I felt like I was the only one reaching in.

Slowly, then quickly, all of this changed. Today, my father is one of the closest relationships. The fellowship we share, the ease of connection, and his active interest in my life feel like a miracle. We’ve walked to the other side of the earth from where we were.

I’ve turned my learnings of five years of leaning in with dad into a graphic story, and woven it into a very special workshop. In advance of this Father’s Day, I’m so pleased to bring it to the Hana community for free.

I’ll share the deeper story of my journey with my father, and guide you through a reflective exercise about your own. You’ll leave with a written story to offer him on his special day—a token of your seeing of the man who gave you life.
