Welcome! This is one of the platforms I use to raise alarm about the many ways women’s rights are denied and trampled in the U.S. and globally. It’s not enough to know what’s wrong. We have to fortify a global womanist community that resists the diminishment embedded in our cultures. Transformative actions like The Howl have to be birthed. Possibly we begin in September.

In the 1967 film The Graduate, Benjamin (Dustin Hoffman) receives this scary piece of career advice:
Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Plastic.
Benjamin: Exactly how do you mean?
Mr. McGuire: There’s a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it?
Nearly sixty years later, plastics are everywhere. About 70% of clothing and other common textiles are made from fibers like polyester, nylon, and acrylic—aka plastics. Thread-like bits of plastic shed from clothing as we make, wear, and wash them. The microplastic fibers have become a huge problem in our oceans. One solution: require microplastic filters on washing machines. The idea is catching on at the legislative level in some states. From the Ocean Conservancy
