Welcome! This is one platform I use to raise alarm about the many ways women’s rights are denied and trampled in the U.S. and globally. It’s not enough to know what’s wrong. We have to commit to fortifying a global womanist community that resists the diminishment embedded in our cultures, and shows up for transformative actions like The Howl.

Beach news

Once the RV encampment moved off, Barkley Beach enjoyed weeks of being nearly free of trash. Now on our walks, especially at low tide, we fill as much as a large tote-bag with waste from about a quarter-mile of Bay beach. Plastics predominate.

Recycle update

All packaging materials are not created equal.

Polystyrene (Styrofoam) is a petroleum-based plastic that is lightweight, durable, and non-biodegradable. It’s NOT widely accepted in curbside recycling bins.

Plant-Based, made from natural starches. They are non-toxic, dissolve completely in water, and can be placed in compost bins. Packaging “peanuts” are a good example. If you want to determine which type you have, simply drop one in a cup of water. If it dissolves, it is made of starch; if it floats and holds its shape, it is made of polystyrene.

Figuring what and where to recycle takes time and focus, but that’s what’s needed to be a caretaker of Momma Earth.
