Good morning, Mama,
Can I just say something first?
The noise.
If your house has been loud lately -- everyone talking at once, everyone needing something, everyone right there -- I want you to know I see you. I am living it too. LOL.
And somehow in the middle of all of that, you are also trying to feel your feelings. To process what the last few weeks stirred up. To be a present, regulated, grounded parent... while also being a human being who is carrying a lot.
That is the double work nobody talks about.
You are not behind because you have not had a quiet moment to reflect yet. You are just living the reality of what it means to be healing yourself in real time, inside a house full of people who need you.
This week, the energy finally exhales. Take that exhale when you can find it. Even if it is two minutes in the bathroom with the door locked. LOL. It counts.
We just entered the month of Iyar. In the ancient Hebrew calendar, the name Iyar is an acronym for a phrase that means: G-d is my healer.
This month arrives every year in the exact season between liberation and revelation. Between the leaving and the arriving. It is the month of the journey, yes. But more specifically, it is the month where the wounds that were uncovered in the leaving get to be tended.
You cannot heal what you have not yet seen. And the last few weeks may have shown you some things.
Some old patterns. Some moments you wish had gone differently. Some places where you reacted instead of responded, and then lay awake that night replaying it.
Iyar says: good. Now we bring it to Source.
Not to fix it yourself. Not to push through it. To offer it up. To let something larger than your effort tend it.
That offering is available to you this week.
Here is what I want to gently say about emotional regulation.
It is not about never losing it. It is not about being calm every time your child needs you to be calm. It is not a performance of serenity while the inside of you is a storm.
It is about managing big feelings in healthy ways. And the first person that applies to... is you.
The parents Leah is raising were not modeled emotional regulation. They were modeled management: keep it together, push through, do not make it a whole thing. Feelings were handled, not felt. Worth was earned by holding it all together, not by falling apart and coming back.
So when you lose it in the kitchen on a Tuesday, and then you feel the shame spiral starting... I want to offer you something different.
What if coming back is the practice?
Not the not-losing-it. The coming back.
The repair. The: I got overwhelmed and I am sorry. The returning to yourself and to your child. That is emotional regulation in the new paradigm. Not the performance of calm. The practice of return.
Gate 24 in the Human Design transits this week is called the Gate of Return. It is the energy of the traveler coming home after the wandering. And it says: you do not have to have been perfect. You just have to come back.
That is the whole practice.
The grounding for our nervous system comes through Gate 44, the Gate of Patterns. See them, love them, and just observe. It’s all going to be ok.
You do not have to have it all processed yet. You do not have to have had the quiet morning or the reflective journaling session or the long walk alone before any of this counts.
The acknowledgment alone shifts something.
Just: I see what came up. I am bringing it to something larger than me. I am coming back.
That is enough. That is the whole month of Iyar in one sentence.
Is there another mama in your life who has been carrying something heavy lately? Who would exhale just a little reading this?
Forward it to her. No explanation needed. Just: thought of you.
Thanks for reading The Child You Have! This post is public so feel free to share it.
