Every week, I stand before you to document the immense courage of Ukrainians—our soldiers holding the frontline against Russian glide bombs, our engineers repairing power grids under fire, and our communities refusing to break.
We expect hostility, danger, and hatred from Moscow. We expect the Kremlin to wage an unprovoked war of annihilation against our people.
What we do **not** expect—and what cuts deeper than almost anything else—is to watch our citizens who escaped that war get beaten in broad daylight in the very country that opened its arms to shelter them.
Today, we need to talk about a painful, uncomfortable, and rapidly escalating crisis happening inside Poland.
On July 26th, a young Ukrainian woman named **Anastasiia** and her boyfriend **Maksym** went to a local grocery store in the Zakrzów district of Wrocław. They weren't making a political statement. They weren't causing a disruption. They were simply shopping.
Then, three men overheard them speaking Ukrainian.
What followed was a horrific, unprovoked assault driven purely by xenophobic rage. The attackers targeted them immediately:
* Anastasiia was **struck with a stun gun** and repeatedly hit across the face.
* She suffered a deep laceration to her ear and required **multiple stitches in her neck**.
* Both Anastasiia and Maksym were left with severe concussions.
As this violence unfolded in broad daylight, bystanders stood by and watched. Nobody intervened. Nobody stopped it.
Following the attack, Anastasiia’s mother posted a desperate message online that every parent—regardless of nationality—can feel in their chest:

If this were a single, isolated act by three drunk criminals, we could treat it as a tragic anomaly. But it isn't. The data and the timelines reveal a disturbing pattern of escalating hatred across Polish cities:
* **July 4th (Wrocław):** A 19-year-old Ukrainian teenager was brutally beaten by a group of men solely for speaking Ukrainian in public. He was left hospitalized with a broken nose and spinal injuries.
* **July 20th (Poznań):** A 60-year-old Polish citizen was viciously assaulted at a tram stop simply because he stepped in to defend a Ukrainian refugee who was being verbally harassed.
The **Ukrainian Consulate General in Wrocław** released an official statement confirming the terrifying trend:
> *"Recently, cases of violence and aggression have become noticeably more frequent in Poland against citizens of Ukraine."*

Let me be unequivocally clear: **I am not blaming Poland.**
Poland has been one of Ukraine’s absolute strongest allies. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Poland opened its borders, welcomed over a million Ukrainian refugees, supplied crucial weapons to our military, and demonstrated incredible generosity. The Polish people showed the world what true neighborly humanity looks like.
**Which is precisely why this hatred cannot be ignored or swept under the rug.**
When coward criminals walk the streets of Wrocław or Poznań feeling emboldened to shock a young woman with a stun gun or break a teenager's spine just for speaking their native language, it corrupts the very values that Poland and Ukraine are fighting together to protect.
Hate thrives in silence. When bystanders look away, criminals assume immunity. When local authorities treat these as mere bar fights rather than targeted hate crimes, the violence grows.

We are demanding two simple things: **Visibility and Justice.**
The local police in Wrocław have obtained CCTV surveillance footage from the store. The three coward attackers who assaulted Anastasiia and Maksym think they can melt back into the crowd and carry on with their lives.
**We must not let them.**
We need this story shared across every platform until those men are identified, dragged before a court of law, and prosecuted to the maximum extent permitted by law. A clear, uncompromising message must be sent across Europe: **if you assault refugees fleeing a bloody war, you will pay a severe legal price.**
Anastasiia deserved to go to the store in peace. Our refugees deserve safety in the lands that offered them shelter.
