Intention: relax, protect, guide into sleep
I’ve added journalling to this ritual because this is the part of the day where it seems most relevant, but if you like to do this at another time, then don’t worry about doing it before bed.
I’m an active dreamer and I sometimes experience astral travel and flight in my dreams, so it shouldn’t be hard to see why the incantation is what it is. Even if you are not an active dreamer, this general incantation for safety during sleep should help you keep your head even if you experience nightmares, astral separation, or something else.
journal
Take a few minutes with your journal and record what happened today. Include any reflections, feelings, or thoughts you have about the day’s events.
Get ready for bed, so that you can lie down and go to sleep directly after this ritual.
Face towards the Moon. Sit or lie down if you like. Let your arms fall at your sides and your energy flow down into the earth, grounding it out so that you can peacefully rest. Take a slow, deep breath, and then say:
Day fades,
Night begins,
I turn to face the Moon.Mirror of the Stars, teach me to rest:
teach me to sleep safe and sound,
whatever dreams or visions may come,
ready to fly through the darkness of the night.
Go to bed, and sleep well!
When doing your journalling, try working with a set of journalling prompts, shadow work, or something similar. This can provide a new external structure to this ritual that you might enjoy.
Try using the incantation as a lead-in to astral travel and flight. If you’re uncertain how to do this, spend some time looking up different techniques to discover what works best for you. This is also a good time to practice lucid dreaming techniques.
