What makes you dance for joy? What are the things / places / people which suddenly invite your best self out into the world?
For many of us, these are things we fit into our lives around our jobs and other commitments. Over time we can forget who we really are, and a well of sorrow opens in our hearts.
There is of course another way - to choose to fully live from a place of genuine self expression.
This week’s story from the Dreamworks Project echos this; What does it mean to find and embody your true self?
We may never know whose life is changed by our willingness to speak, create, sing, write or simply show up more honestly. Yet every act of authentic self expression adds something irreplaceable to the world.
This is a reminder that a meaningful life is not measured only by what we accomplish. It is also measured by whether we had the courage to inhabit our own lives fully, and in so doing, to offer the gifts that only we could bring - to the world.
This week I’m offering three questions for you to reflect or journal on:
💡 What creative practice or form of expression makes you feel most fully alive?
💡 Where in your life do you feel most able to express your authentic self, and where do you still find yourself holding something back?
💡 Looking back many years from now, what would help you feel that you truly claimed your life, rather than simply living the one that was expected of you?
Make yourself a brew, sit down for a few minutes, and enjoy reading the story of this woman’s dream. The following words are all her own, from an interview held in June 2024.
With love, Sarah xox
I’ve come to realise that one of the deepest dreams in my life is to explore what it means to find and express my true voice. I feel that I have the nature of a singer, and singing to me is a deep expression of my creative being.
So I want to explore singing to discover my unique sound. But I also need to overcome my inhibitions and old conditioning if I want to be able to freely express my voice.
It’s an ongoing journey, and it would open up so much more space for me to better communicate, and I feel it would also help me be more present.
In those moments when I am fully present, I somehow become a better version of myself.
I become my best self. I live from within a place of wellness and wholeness, no matter what else is happening in my life or the wider world.
So I dream of fully exploring and inhabiting my authentic self. At the end of my days, I want to know if I actually did that; did I claim my life, did I fully live my life?
Because when I do, that’s when I will contribute the most to the world. I am here to embody my authentic self.
But it is more than that. I know that I am here to do something with my life. I don’t know what it is, but I know finding and exploring my voice is part of my journey. Singing is a part of my true nature, and I need to learn how to freely express this
I doubt it’s going to be easy– the important things often aren’t.
But I can see that this will be my contribution to the whole, and that will ripple out into the wider world.
As I’ve gone through the process of change and moving towards alignment with my authentic self over the years, I’ve found that many relationships have fallen away. But I am beginning to meet new people and different people.
In my very immediate relationships, there has been a release of tension; it creates tremendous tension when you’re working against your true self. So many people are living like that – they often can’t show up fully as themselves at work and sometimes not even at home.
As I come more into alignment with my true self, I find a greater sense of ease, and that in turn is helpful or easeful for the people around me. This is an internal shift for me, and I expect that my external life will continue to shift and change to reflect that.
All of us make a contribution to the collective energy in the world.
Every contribution we make is profoundly important and not to be underestimated.
We never know what might change the trajectory of a life, or what someone else needs.
If I’m to bring my light into the world and make a meaningful difference to even just one person, I have to be authentically me. I have to claim my life for myself, and if there’s something I can contribute that answers someone’s need, then that’s wonderful.
There are so many ways to express your creative being. It could be through art, or writing, or dance. It’s an authentic soul expression, whatever the medium.
But for me, it’s singing and expressing my true voice. I know I’m here to channel certain frequencies, and to offer them into the world. I feel strengthened by that.
The world is such a difficult, wonderful place.
I want to live fully for as long as I’m here.
