Hey there! I’ve been feeling less Substacky of late, but do enjoy putting together a link list once a month so here we are. It’s been a good summer for revisiting 90s movies, tiptoeing back into true crime podcasts, and delighting in local interest stories. I hope some of these links entertain you, as well!

“Why Hasn’t Medical Science Cured Chronic Headaches?” by Jerome Groopman for The New Yorker was a validating read for me, a lifelong headache-haver still trying to name and understand my specific pattern of migraines and how to treat them
Sure did read this whole recap and watch every single video: God Is a Woman: A Recap of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl
This month I read Green Gold: The Avocado’s Remarkable Journey from Humble Superfood to Toast of a Nation by Sarah Allaback and Monique F. Parsons, and by far my favorite part was that each chapter opened with an avocado-centered recipe from the time period on which the chapter focused
I’m usually a few years late to any true crime podcast listen, so you’re welcome for the late-breaking recommendation, but I loved Bone Valley (both seasons one and two) for an engrossing road-trip listen
This summer I re-watched Almost Famous not once but twice and fell ever more in love with it (also: Pop Culture Happy Hour rereleased their episode about the film in honor of its turning 25 this year, and I enjoyed the conversation)

I don’t miss Instagram, but every once in a while I still get the warm fuzzy feeling of discovering a joyful content creator doing their thing. I read about @steveeatgood in my local paper (how’s that for analog!), and watched a bunch of his breakfast burrito review videos with my teens. He’s a damn delight!
*tee hee* If The White Lotus was set in Santa Barbara, here’s where the characters would live & frequent (another IG reel that I somehow found despite not being on the app)
