Welcome to WIP Wednesday, a weekly dispatch where I give a little state of the union of what I’m working on. WIP, (an acronym for ‘Work in Progress’) Wednesday is a weekly share out many crafters use to give status updates on projects, keep each other accountable, and celebrate the creative progress.
Hot Craft Summer is kicking into full gear. Below, you’ll find what I’m working on, as well as a few recommendations of some crafty events here in NYC.
Collage: Proper debrief newsletter coming soon but the first ever Craft Club IRL collage picnic was amazing perfect awesome incredible in every way. Everyone made such creative collages! The weather was perfect! The vibes were impeccable! I can’t wait to get my film developed and glue the collage I made into my junk journal.
Knitting: German short rows will be the death of me. After trying three separate times, I finally finished the right sleeve of the Silhouette top. Before I could even think about doing the second one, I decided to pick up some scrap yarn and knit a sweater for my cousin’s almost one year old baby, using this random pattern from Etsy.
Embroidery: Ahead of the Craft Club Collage picnic, I decided I needed a little Craft Club rosette ribbon to wear. I bought some ribbons to match my outfit, and embroidered ‘Craft Club’ on a scrap piece of felt. It was super simple and I love the way it turned out! Will be wearing at future Craft Club events.
Darning: Yes, more darning. I brought a shirt with holes in the elbows to the mending boat, and the lovely Sam of Rrepair Sshop taught me how to darn on woven fabrics using a running stitch border. I’ve previously only darned on knits so this was a bit of a challenge. If you want to learn how to darn, a recent newsletter send includes a little tutorial!
Loose threads: I still have not touched my needlepoint.
But I did get all the trimmings necessary for my Heavenly Jelly dupe, including a beaded fringe trim and a TINY BEADED PURSE CHARM (similar here).
I’m very much lusting after this Sea New York dress, but I also kind of feel like I could make it myself?? It would be insanely labor intensive to hand embroider, but that kind of thing’s never stopped me before.
I’m on a weaving kick. I realllyyyyy want to try one of Erin of Underwater Weaving Studio’s amazing basket kits but for now I’ll probably settle for this vintage one.

Izzy got me hooked on sewing Youtube. She introduced me to Syd Graham, Aver Paula and Carly B. Some of my other favorite Youtube crafters are The Essentials Club, Alexa Kari and Rosery Apparel.
I gave in to the Milotte hype and bought a bunch of yarn from Linde Hobby last week. I went for DROPS Belle in Dandelion to make the Pippa tank top , DROPS Safran in Red for the Betty headscarf and Permin Bella in light blue and sunflower yellow for the Juni sweater.
Where to get crafty in NYC this week: Mei Knits is hosting a yarn swap in Fort Greene on Saturday, July 18. I’m going to try and stop by with some leftover boucle from the Oasis Jacket I made in the spring. Craft Society is doing a community indigo bath on Sunday July 19. I’ll be coming round to breathe new life into my irreparably stained Gap x Doen blouse from two summers ago. Starting this week, Fab Scrap is hosting bring-a-friend sorting sessions, where you can get an extra pound of fabric added to your shopping voucher. Cleo’s in Bushwick is doing a drop in friendship bracelet craft circle all day long on July 18. Brooklyn creative reuse is doing a MASSIVE yarn sale, where all yard will be under 50 CENTS! Go, go go!
