Style as Self Care

We talk about self-care like it’s a checklist. The morning walk. The green juice. The meditation app we open twice and then forget about. But there’s one form of self-care that most women overlook entirely - and it happens every single morning, right in front of your closet. How you choose to dress yourself is one of the most powerful acts of self-care you can practice. Not because clothing matters more than your well-being. But because the way you show up in your clothes is a direct reflection of how you feel about yourself - and it has the power to change that feeling before you’ve even left the house.

Because when you feel good, you are more confident to BE yourself.

And I know this is how I want to show up - and it happens more easily when I take care of myself.

And yet for so many women - getting dressed has become anything but nurturing. It's become a negotiation, or sometimes a compromise. A daily reminder of the body that's changed, the wardrobe that no longer feels like theirs, the woman they used to be versus the one standing in the mirror right now. We pour so much care into everyone and everything around us. Our homes. Our relationships. Our health. And then we stand in front of our closets in the morning and treat ourselves like an afterthought. It's time to change that.

I’m sure I don’t have to describe the different forms that self-care takes. All geared for enhancing your well-being. What the good news is though and what you’ll love is how personal style covers many of the self-care types.

First thing in the morning, right in your closet - you can:

- Engage your creativity and step outside your comfort zone (mental self care)

- Pay attention to your self talk and how you see yourself (emotional self care)

- Put on fabrics that feel good next to your skin (physical self care)

- Get excited to see the people around you (social self care)

How do you use personal style as a self-care practice?

Like any self-care practice, it has to begin with intention. Be thoughtful about your choices - when you’re purchasing something new, and when you’re putting outfits together. Always consider your personal style.

Think about the tangibles - the shopping, getting dressed, and editing your closet.

And the intangibles - identity , self-image and your relationship with the clothes in your closet.

If your wardrobe doesn’t give you confidence, the real problem is that you’re focusing more on the clothes than on how you’re BEING in the clothes.

Style is your way of being!

It’s how you carry yourself, the confidence you radiate, the energy you bring to every situation. And when all these elements align, you become a compelling presence.

Who doesn’t want that?
