Do you have a favorite female author? There are so, so many great ones, spanning all genres. But if I had to narrow down to a couple, in my current historical focus, I’d include Beatriz Williams and Kate Quinn. Last week, Kate graciously answered questions for our weekly zoom gathering of historical fiction writers. It was such an honor to hear how she immerses in research for her much-lauded books, including The Alice Network (my personal fave), The Rose Code, The Diamond Eye, etc.
As you read a female author’s work this month, pause a minute to give thanks to all the brave women over the centuries who fought for our freedoms and the vote. We must never take this for granted, no matter where we live. Democracy is fragile, and our vote, and our voice, is our power.
Wow, was I thrilled to leap into March. February closed a big chapter in my life, with selling a house. I’d already moved, so it was a huge relief, but stressful, too. And yes, I moved my collection. A major selling point of this townhouse is the finished basement, providing a large office for my writing and plenty of space to display these goodies. The pieces, ranging from hats, to shoes, to garments, to jewelry, to undies, to coats had been stored in various closets and rooms. After pulling it all together, I swore never to move it again. Clothing is heavy, and I just have way too many hats! People like to give them to me, and I just can’t say no…
With the weather warming, I’m excited to venture out for more in-person events, including the Saturday, March 29 BookCon at St. Joseph County’s Library branch, 304 S. Main, South Bend, Indiana. From 11-3 p.m. ET, thirty-six area authors will happily chat with you and sign books. I’ll bring plenty of copies of Divine Vintage, Divinely Dramatic, and The Ghostly Diva.
And I’d be quite remiss not to shoutout a lovely January book gathering.
I donated a copy of Diva as part of a book party package for an auction benefiting our domestic violence shelter. My new friends / tablemates accidently competed online for it! Karen and Valerie ended up collaborating to present the most fabulous party with a dozen friends.
