Thanks to everyone who’s shown support for heymamdani.nyc, our campaign to improve the everyday lives of New Yorkers through civic technology!

It’s clear that people are passionate about addressing the role that technology plays in their lives and want to reimagine what that could look like on a city-wide level.

Our goal remains to meet with the Mayor to discuss how we, as a coalition of partners, could help improve the civic technology offered in NYC.

We are now releasing a 17-minute Hey Mamdani! documentary from the in-person event, Open Assembly: A Prompt Towards Civic Engagement, where the 12 recommendations from the campaign were born.

The documentary captures the open and participatory spirit of the event, where 100 local technologists, civic experts and engaged citizens gathered to discuss how civic technology could improve the everyday lives of New Yorkers. This was done via a live Polis exercise where attendees could add their own and vote upon statements.

(12 recommendations from the event)

The event was hosted by Jordan Coley with contributions from members of Metagov, Polis, RadicalxChange, Decentral Park, NYC Mesh among others. The event was held at Index Greenpoint and produced by garden3d.

The documentary is directed by Rebecca Shenfeld with additional camera work by Geoff Duncanson and sound mixing by Arielle Herman.
