𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀.
In 1977, Don Chipp founded an Australian political party with the pledge to, “Keep the bastards honest”.
The catchphrase still resonates today. 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 for those in power more than ever. But what does it look like to put this into action?
Today I’m pleased to present: “𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘅-𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱.”
This is a framework for thinking through public policy, drawing on 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 used by product developers, economists, and engineers around the globe.
But it’s also a 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 to assess our own ideas. Because even when we’re sure we’re thinking straight, 𝘄𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 to make ourselves feel good.
Here’s to better conversations – and keeping an eye on that little bastard in all of us.
