Samantha Tams · Saludos from Somewhere

Saludos from Yucatan.

If you’re reading this, chances are we’ve met somewhere along the way.

Maybe through LAFS. Maybe over coffee. Maybe at an event, on Instagram, or through a mutual friend. However we found each other, I’m really happy you’re here.

For the past nine years, most of you have known me as the Co-Founder of Latin American Fashion Summit. Building LAFS has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. It’s taken me across Latin America and beyond, introduced me to extraordinary founders, creatives, executives, and brands, and given me a front-row seat to the ideas shaping our region.

Me, Pharell, Felecia Hatcher, Stef & Craig (LAFS 2022)

But there’s another side of me that many of you already know... I’m constantly sending recommendations: Where should I do in Mexico City? What Latin brands should I know? Who’s building something interesting in LATAM? Who should I have coffee with if I'm in Miami? And sometimes it’s simply, “Can you introduce me to this person?”

It wasn’t until recently that I realized I’ve been doing this for years.

Long before I was building communities, I was collecting them.

I collect conversations. I collect ideas. I collect restaurants, brands, cities, and people. Not because I have all the answers, but because I’m endlessly curious. I love asking questions. I love noticing patterns. And I genuinely believe that one thoughtful recommendation from someone you trust is infinitely more valuable than scrolling through hundreds of options or reviews.

That’s really what inspired Saludos from Somewhere.

I wanted to create a place where I could share everything I come across along the way: the people, ideas, places, and discoveries shaping Latin America and beyond through entrepreneurship, culture, travel, and thoughtful curation.

I called it Saludos from Somewhere because I hope every edition feels a little like receiving a postcard.

Some weeks it’ll begin with a conversation I had with a founder. Other weeks it’ll come from a city I just visited, or an observation that followed me home. And occasionally, it’ll simply be an idea that’s been living rent-free in my head.

Like this one.

I have a feeling that over the next decade, curators will become just as valuable (f not more valuable) than creators. Not because creation matters any less. It absolutely does. But because we no longer live in an economy of information.

We live in an economy of attention.

Information has never been more abundant, and our time has never been more limited. The challenge isn’t finding another article to read or another video to watch. It’s knowing what’s actually worth your attention.

Who should you follow?

Which founder is quietly building something extraordinary?

What brand deserves a place in your wardrobe?

Which restaurant is actually worth the hype or reservation?

Which opportunity should you say yes to?

And perhaps just as importantly... what can you ignore?

I think the people we’ll value most over the next decade won’t necessarily be the ones creating the most. They’ll be the ones helping us make sense of it all.

Because in a world overflowing with options, trust becomes one of our most valuable currencies.

And curation is trust at scale.

That’s my hope for this publication.

Not to add another email to your inbox, but to send you something worth opening. Something that introduces you to a person, a place, an idea, or a brand you might never have discovered otherwise.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, I’d love for you to join me from the very beginning.

I can’t wait to see where these letters take us.

Saludos,

Samantha
