Altar-ing Reality

The following is an excerpt from True Human: Reimagining Ourselves at the End of Our World. These are the final words. I feel I wrote them specifically for this moment.

An organismic process is afoot.

Our species is slowly remembering our sacred, ecological place within this magnificent planet we occupy. The relationship between our species and Gaia is an expression of what is most holy and real.

To sit idly by as we desecrate and destroy this greater whole is a suffering beyond  suffering we can no longer tolerate. We incarnated to know ourselves in kinship and communion with Life.

Dear one—your love, your remembering, is part of a collective immune response, an impulse of Life protecting and making more Life. You are woven with an infinitely elegant, reciprocal complexity—made as an infinite game player. Remembering this, enter your back-and-forth dialogue with Life. Trust the beauty and resilience you bring into being.

Our human story is nested within a larger story. This story arc spans geological ages and reaches across galaxies. It’s the story of Life becoming selfaware to recursively enact conscious communion at the scale of a planet. In this story, homo sapiens are a unique player. We leave home, become homeless, then remember that coming home is the most beautiful story ever.

You ALTAR reality when you recognize then respond to Life as sacred. You begin to move adaptively, attuned to the needs and possibilities inherent in the moment. The currencies of your attention naturally flow in reciprocity, complementarity, and beauty.

Don’t worry. Let the veils of separation slough off, revealing your soulucence. 

Tend the motion from separation to wholeness where your imperfect, miraculous Life will begin to make sense again.

This is no ascension. It’s a descent, a rewilding, an incension, a realignment of power with love. It’s a homecoming at a planetary scale, embracing our destiny as cocreators with Gaia.

Together we tend the flame. We keep the doorway to the Ancient Future open. So offer your time, energy, attention, resources, will force, and care to that which resonates with your values and vision. To do so is a continuous sublimation of contractive self-interest that grows solidarity, belonging, and peace.

You are powerful.

You are more powerful when you move in concert and care for the human and more-than-human others you interdepend with. When we live, love, and lead for Life, we become like trees, braiding roots, becoming a larger being. We become the civilizing impulse that harmonizes the forces of nature.

A flourishing future breathes in the interstitial fabric that already binds us. If we listen to Life together, we can enact something that has never been done before, not here on this planet — the weaving of harmonious collaboration between all of humanity, technology and nature at a planetary scale.

Life wants more Life. As organisms sacredly bound to Gaia’s becoming, we are perfectly suited to the task. Sapience exists to serve sentience. Our collective soul opportunity is to co-orchestrate the emergence of a human world that hums in harmony with Life’s Song.

You cannot be home alone. We are made to come home together. Interbeing is Life’s Law. Let us meet rupture, dissonance, and collapse as our opportunity to make home—for all beings.

Our elders from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Mountains of Colombia say,

“Let us continue to continue.”

Onward, fellow humans! 

We shall be known as the ones who came home.
