Every single September I moan about my pigmentation. Despite my year-round attempts to target it, even though I slather myself in SPF50 and wear a hat all summer, the heat and light wakes my stubborn dark spots from its dormant slumber and there’s not a thing that I can do about it. For years, I assumed it was an inevitable post-holiday tax, leading to a frantic. heavy handed Autumn overhaul, armed with high-strength retinol and my trusted LED mask.

Not this year. This summer I have been staying consistent with what I know works during the summer, rather than playing catch-up come September. That means using my CurrentBody LED mask 3-4x a week. The difference in how my pigmentation has behaved is, quite frankly, unbelievable. By being consistent, I’ve managed to keep the brightness locked in and the pigmentation at bay - proving that consistency always beats a panic cure.

As well as pigmentation, I always break out around my jaw-line just before my period, which often results in stubborn after-marks. I like to go foundation-free in the summer, so it’s helped at keeping those at bay too.

As a beauty journalist, I spend my life de-bunking marketing fluff, but the science behind CurrentBody’s tech is actually pretty simple. UV light and summer heat trigger inflammation, sending melanin-producing cells into overdrive. The red and the near infra-red wavelengths in the CB mask reduce the inflammation, telling skin to calm down before the dark spots even surface.

But most importantly - for me to commit to anything, it has to be easy. Hands-free skin-care means I can sit for 10 minutes, watching TV, scrolling my phone, I’ve even been known to do the laundry - my kids, and their friends, don’t bat an eyelid anymore.

I get asked a lot if all LED masks are the same. What makes me Team CurrentBody (for the last four years) is the breadth of clinical testing the device has undergone. Most brands test a sample bulb. CurrentBody tests every single bulb, in every single mask. Their unique testing system, Veritace, ensures the quality is gold standard meaning it meets clinical grade performance. Well worth the money, IMO.

There are lots of LED masks around, but CurrentBody’s device is arguably the most expert-recommended on the market right now. In just 10 minutes, it can effectively treat an array of skin conditions such as wrinkles, acne, fine lines, dark spots, and more. In the words of Jennifer Aniston, “here comes the science bit.”

How It Works:

CurrentBody technology uses 236 bulbs across three light wavelengths. These 236 LEDs emit the 3 most clinically recognised wavelengths for anti-ageing. Each wavelength penetrates to different depths in the skin for different effects, and they’re combined to give you maximum results.

Red: reduces surface lines & boosts overall glow

NIR: calms and repairs the skin on a deeper level

Deep NIR: targets the deepest layers, boosting firmness & reducing deep wrinkles

The red light accelerates the production of new collagen and calms redness; while near-infrared works beneath the skin’s surface to boost blood circulation, bringing oxygen and nutrients to the cells for a GLOW. The deep near-infrared, on the other hand, targets deeper beneath the skin, repairing damage. These varied wavelengths work together to boost collagen production, improve circulation, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles, in just 10 minutes, 3-5 times a week.

If you want to fast-track your results further, this is a real beauty insider trick that I’ve mentioned a few times on IG. Layer Vitamin C beneath your SPF every morning. While the CB LED Mask repairs and calms from the inside, your antioxidant acts as a shield, supercharging your SPF results, by mopping up free-radicals, pigment-producing enzymes and doubling down on that lit-from-within glow.

Trust me; your September skin will thank you for it.
