Dear Reader,
I hope you had a lovely 4th of July, if celebrating. If not, I hope you enjoyed watching the French national team survive a murder attempt on the field. If you’re not into any sort of nationalist celebrations, I hope you’re enjoying the summer.
If you’re looking for a July read, we begin Walden today at 12:00pm EST.
Last summer I went on a long journey that led me from California to Poland. Surreal the time of an essay. I wrote about Walter Benjamin, the Angel of History, staying at the new hotel in Auschwitz for the 80th anniversary celebration of the liberation of the camps, and getting yelled at by a Polish tour guide for the Jewish Review of Books. Many thanks to Abe Socher and Shai Secunda for their deft editing work.
You can read it here:
I would put a picture of the Angelus Novus here, but I can bring myself to look at it anymore. I hereby declare it as existing in the future and therefore cannot see it.
Other notes, I robbed an English bookstore and stole things good and bad. Made you a little video.
If you don’t feel like reading, here’s some classic Bob Dylan.
Keep on keeping on.
Until soon,
S
