Summer Mending Events

North Bay/Marin folks, I’m coming to you! I’m popping up at Fibershed’s learning center in Point Reyes Station for 2 in person events. Bring your mending for on-the-spot repairs (availability depends on demand/how complicated the repair is), or drop off to pick up next session. I can also mail back. Pricing ranges from $8-$12 for buttons, snaps, hook/eye and sewn mending starts at $25, with average customer spend typically $65 per piece. No registration required.

Fibershed is an incredible organization, and I'm proud to be mending with them this summer. They’re working to bring the full textile supply chain back to a regional scale by connecting local farmers, manufacturers, and artisans, while supporting farming practices that build soil health. Through their learning center and working farm, they demonstrate these practices firsthand and offer classes in natural dye, basket weaving, eco printing, and more.

I’ve been really enjoying the many “full denim tune-ups” rolling in this summer. You know, the beloved pair with multiple “problem areas”— the booty blow out, plus the knee rips, plus the worn and thinning thighs, popped belt loops, holes at the pocket corners and fraying hems. It’s such a meditative and rewarding practice to spend hours with your favorite pair carefully working it back into wearable condition.

If this sounds like a pair you might have in your closet, I’d be honored to restore it. For these types of projects (and also bulk item repairs), I charge an hourly rate. I give you an estimated number of hours it’ll take to repair as well as a “not to exceed” price. This way, you’ll know up front roughly how much your total repair will cost.

For individual repairs, I continue to operate with a mail-in preferred model (with a few local drop off appointment slots available each week, typically Tuesdays and Thursdays). This switch has been such a mental load relief, and I’ve been able to focus more time doing what I love (the actual mending!), creative projects, and gain back some needed work/life balance.

Join an upcoming mend club! Lindsey (of the Future Past) and I continue to host our monthly community mending circle. This is not a structured class per se, rather a dedicated work time to keep each other accountable, meet other menders in the community, and learn from each other. Fiber folks of any level or craft (knitting, crochet, embroidery, etc.) are welcome. In our June session we had such rich conversation around cold plunges, the state of the public school system, crabbing, hobbies in adulthood, meeting your neighbors/creating community, and so much more. Plus, lots of creative brainstorming and skill sharing.
