Hi there!
Ok, well. I feel like a lot is happening this week. I slowed down…I mean really slowed down during the process of photographing my new recipe: Lemon Poppy Seed Scones. And I was super happy with the vibe of the photos.
I am adamant that this is the year of embracing the shadow and the mood. And I wanted that feel of being in a cottage kitchen. I wanted it to feel cozy. And I think I got there. Plus, these scones are really tasty so it’s a win all around.
These particular lemon scones are more English than they are American, as I pulled back the amount of cream from 2/3 of a cup to 1/2 cup. However, if you want a more, I would say, muffin-cross-scone experience, stick to the 2/3 cup and just use a lot of flour on the kitchen surface.
And while we are on the topic of lemon poppy seed scones - I attempted my first voiceover for the recipe video, which is already up and published. And I tried a slightly different approach to the video. I’m not 100% happy with the editing or color of the video but sometimes you just gotta get it done and not be perfect about it.
And since the Easter eggs and chocolate have been out and about since before we even rolled into Valentine’s Day. I decided I should share one my favorite traybakes or sheet cakes - the Carrot Cake Tray Bake. Which is kinda perfect for the upcoming Easter weekend.
Gathering all your ingredients and prepping them before you kick off a recipe is a great way to make sure you end up with a winner.
But I’m the first to admit this isn’t always my style of cooking and baking. When I’m baking for the blog, everything is measured out in bowls (because it makes a nice ingredient shot). When I’m baking for myself - all the ingredients are laid out in front of me. And then I try to put it away as I go. Which is telling my brain that yes, I already added the baking powder.
When it comes to cooking, I do like to pre-prep - especially if its a quick recipe that just requires short 5-minute cooking intervals before tossing in the next thing.
Treat of the week: My afternoon nap this past Thursday - lasted 20 minutes but it was glorious!
Ingredient of the week: Leftovers. The leftovers are great. And sometimes you just gotta sit down and have a leftover night. A little bit of this, a little bit of that.
Podcast of the week: Battlestar Galacticast - because I may be hyper fixated on the series and all the themes and everything I missed in my first watch or two. I’m all in.
TV show of the week: I have been binging Battlestar Galactica!
Read of the week: Video editing, low pass filters, and all other random things on videos.
Quote of the week: Done is better than perfect!
Have you tried a recipe on saltyginger.com? Please leave me a star rating or share it on your favorite social media platform! All this supports me and helps my blog grow. Which I truly appreciate!
See you next week!
