Statement on US/Israel invading Iran

Dear readers,

Like many of you, I woke up to news of America and Israel invading Iran. I share your feelings - sadness, anger, and bewilderment. Take this and turn it into action. Follow your local Indivisible accounts and other advocacy organizations to see where community is happening. Protest and visit your members of Congress. They must stand up to the President against this unconstitutional action.

Here’s my statement:

I condemn the US and Israeli invasion of Iran. At a time when Americans cannot afford to pay energy bills, groceries, and rent, the President should invest in stabilizing our nation. Instead, he will spend a blank check on destabilizing a region at the behest of Israel.

We have been here before. America invaded Iraq almost exactly 23 years ago. When the dust settled, we had spent trillions, traumatized generations on both sides, and committed untold atrocities.

All for what? To enrich military contractors and oil barons.

Now, a new generation of Americans will wake up this morning to yet another war. Yet another power and cash grab, yet another national debt increase, yet another generation of atrocities and trauma.

The Founders placed the War Powers in Congress for a reason. Congress must stand up to the President and repeal the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

May God have mercy on all of us.
