My good friend Salaam Bhatti is a public interest lawyer who has announced his Congressional run in Virginia’s First District. I’m proud to endorse him. I am writing to ask you to support his 100% people-funded campaign and flip Virginia’s 1st House District Blue.
Salaam supported me when I ran for Congress against MAGA fascist Rob Wittman. While I didn’t win, I earned a record turnout and more votes than any Democrat in that district's history. I’m grateful to all who supported me then.
Seven years later, the cries for justice sound more loudly by the day. Our basic constitutional freedoms have been eroded. ICE patrols arrest citizens in our neighborhoods. The rights of women, immigrants, and our LGBTQIA+ friends are being threatened. And just last week, America started yet another unjust war.
I hear the genuine fear many have, especially the reality that the status quo will only make things worse. We cannot continue to elect the same old politicians, MAGA Republicans, or complicit corporate Democrats and expect change.
And the first critical step is this: just as so many helped me win my primary election in 2020, I need you to help Salaam win his primary election in 2026.
He has a simple message: Salaam Bhatti wants to go to Congress to protect economic justice for all people in America by fighting for Medicare for All, taxing billionaires, and stopping foreign interests/corporate PACs from funding campaigns.
Salaam knows what it’s like to be poor. He grew up dependent on free lunches and WIC, and because of that, he’s worked hard to advance these programs for Virginians. With his expertise, both personal and professional, he’s ready to improve the safety net for our whole nation. But Salaam needs your help to do it.
