Postcards from the East Coast

Earlier this month, we signed off for our annual summer recharge week. Just before our OOO’s went up, we got to talking about where we’d all be spending our time off. Almost every answer pointed to the East Coast. (Well.. except for Nina, with a ticket to Mallorca… Her itinerary is coming soon.)

Let’s just say that lobster rolls, long beach days, and charming towns with the perfect ice cream parlor never get old.

So we thought we’d share a few of those places we keep going back to. In case you’re in the area—or still trying to squeeze in one more long weekend before summer slips away.

In a word: Quintessential. MV is Kelly’s favorite place to vacay out of the city. “Every time I’m on the island I feel calm and relaxed,” she says. “Seeing all the hydrangeas in the summer makes it so coastal, cute, and special.” And all of the beaches and quaint towns are just as charming.

KELLY’S FAVORITE SPOTS:
Noman’s: A casual spot in Oak Bluffs, with amazing food and vibes—and there’s something for everyone. You can play games, dance, or just lounge.

Behind The Bookstore: Located in Edgartown, this cafe/bar is literally behind a cute bookstore. I look forward to getting an iced vanilla latte every time I’m on the island, but most recently I tried their Lagoon Matcha (made with coconut water), and that might be my new go-to. They also have amazing pastries.

Rainy Day: This cute gift shop in Vineyard Haven has kitchenware, stationery, jewelry, candles. Recently, I picked up the cutest glass cup with hydrangeas on it.

For Colleen, Montauk is pure nostalgia. “Growing up, we lived on the lake and spent every single day outside from sunrise to sunset. I still love the smell of the air and the sunsets.”

COLLEEN’S FAVORITE SPOT:
Harvest: Everything is delicious, but I especially like their calamari salad, shrimp pasta, and ice cream sandwich (IYKYK!).

Laney’s perfect summer afternoon starts at Sunset Beach Hotel: swim in the cove, order a frozé (or two), stay a little longer than planned, then change for a sun-soaked lunch overlooking the water.

Charlotte keeps coming back for the salty ocean breeze, quaint little Main Street, and relaxed pace—which is no pace at all. It’s a great escape.

CHARLOTTE’S FAVORITE SPOTS:
Chatham Pier Fish Market: The go-to spot for a lobster roll. I find myself dreaming about this way too often.

Chatham Bars Inn: Nothing beats putting on a sundress after a long beach day and heading to CBI’s terrace for drinks. It’s quintessential Cape-Cod summer.Buffy’s: The perfect sweet ending to a summer day. They’re known for their iconic ice cream bars. My personal favorite: the Angler Brownie Bar.

Julia has spent summers in South Bethany for as long as she can remember. Most days are happily uneventful: beach, books, home-cooked dinners, etc.

When she ventures into town, it’s usually to two places…

JULIA’S FAVORITE SPOTS:
Bluecoast: For oysters, seafood pasta, and martinis.

Kohr Brothers: The perfect after-dinner treat. The peanut butter chocolate swirl is my favorite.

Did you know Maine has more coastline than California? Neither did we, until Stevie informed us. As she says, there are so many nooks and crannies to explore. She’s not exaggerating: Stevie has a personal map with nearly a hundred gems saved. We narrowed it down to a few in Portland.

STEVIE’S FAVORITE SPOTS:
Scales: One of the best restaurants I ever been to—and James Beard agrees. Fresh seafood awaits.

Higgins Beach: The happiest place on earth, about 12 minutes outside of Portland. It’s dog-friendly, there’s good surf, and a market with everything you need for a proper beach day.

Little Diamond Island: Pack a picnic, grab a book, and take the ferry over for a dreamy afternoon.
