In late July construction was completed and we scheduled our final inspection. Unfortunately we did not pass, even though we had the same inspector who has been supervising the build since we broke ground! He told us we needed to make a concrete drainage ditch called a “swale” running between the building and the retaining wall holding up the hill to direct water away from the building, even though we already have a whole network of french drain pipes installed underground. So that set us back another week for my builders to put that in, but finally on August 2nd we passed inspection and I could move in.

I am grateful to my builders who did the heavy lifting to move in all my furniture and boxes from where they had been stored in our house and basement for two very long years, but I was so excited when they were done and I was finally ALONE in my studio!

It took me a couple weeks of 12-hour days, but I had a lot of energy for it because it felt so good to be able to do work myself instead of watching and waiting as I have been for so long. Finally I was all set up, and in late August I started my first painting. Since then I have finished several new small paintings, I’ll share the first one at the end of this post.

But first, a studio tour!
