While that may make it sound like I’m a millionaire, I am not (yet). My company Trivia With Budds has brought in over $2 million in events since 2020, but there are, of course, expenses. Paper, pens, paying hosts, travel, gas, food, equipment; it all adds up. But I thought if I put a big number in the header you might keep reading 🤗
I’m an English major, and if you don’t teach English with that degree, you’re pretty much hosting trivia at a bar somewhere. I love reading and writing, and one of my goals this year is to flex those muscles a little more. I’ve been listening to lots of podcasters like Gary Vee tout the importance of sites like Substack, so I thought it was the perfect time to give it a shot.
With over 10,000 trivia, bingo, and game shows under my belt (not to mention thousands more stand-up comedy shows from 2006-2017), I’ve got lots of quirky interactions, funny arguments with players, and unforgettable celebrity high-fives to share. I don’t do stand-up anymore, but hopefully you’ll find some of the stories I have humurous and repeatable.
Yeah, I’m as shocked as you are. I’ve been grinding as a full-time business since my son was born in 2017. I wanted to be home more with both kids when they were little so I could watch them grow up without looking forward to just weekends.
Hosting trivia, bingo, game shows, karaoke, and emceeing events is the perfect mix of all the things I’ve ever been good at: talking, joking, and making sure everyone isn’t taking life too seriously.
I can’t wait for you to read about the time I spent New Year’s Eve with Cheech Marin, working as a clip finder on Ridiculousness for 3 years, and filming a Cash Cab-esque pilot in the backseat of NBA star JaVale McGee’s car, just to name a few stories. At the end of each story, you’ll find a quiz on some themes from the story, and a few more fun tidbits.
Cheers to reading and writing in 2026! RB
