August 4 marked 40 days since the start of the operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its objective was to put pressure on Russia and force it to begin substantive peace negotiations with Ukraine.

During the operation, strikes targeted Russian strategic and military facilities both in the occupied territories of Ukraine and deep inside Russian territory. According to published data, strikes on oil refineries and oil infrastructure had reduced Russia’s oil-processing capacity by early August to its lowest level since 2002.

Warehouses, airfields, ports, maritime shipping, and dozens of different military facilities were also targeted. Russia suffered significant damage, while fuel shortages emerged across most regions of the country.

The situation was most severe in Crimea. Supplies of gasoline and diesel fuel remained unstable. In some areas, power outages lasted from five to ten days.
