It’s quite funny in the America’s Cup that everyone likes to paint themselves as the underdog. It’s the default of humility. Even the Kiwis are at it having won the damn thing three times in a row and are now pointing the frame of reference to the “lion’s den of Naples” and entering a crucible of confrontation. Alright I’ll buy it. I’m cheap. But I’m not sure I believe it. Meanwhile the other status symbol is that of the ‘dark horse’ which Sir Ben was quick to collar, but there are others on the ‘cavallo oscuro’ ticket. I’m not suggesting that any of them are wrong to say it, but I have my own view as to who the real underdog/dark horse is when the action starts in the Louis Vuitton Cup - and it’s the USA.
