The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations hosted a workshop on artificial intelligence and the future of public institutions

On 3 June 2026, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and Blockchain Alliance International (BAI), organized at UN Headquarters the workshop entitled “AI Transformation and the Future of Public Institutions: From Theory to Implementation.”

The event was moderated by Ambassador Alexandru Cujba, Executive President of BAI and brought together representatives of Member States, the United Nations system, academia and the private sector, providing a policy-oriented platform for dialogue on the impact of artificial intelligence on digital governance, public administration and the delivery of services to citizens.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Gheorghe Leucă, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, underlined that artificial intelligence is redefining the way public institutions operate, make decisions and interact with citizens. According to the Permanent Representative, for the Republic of Moldova, artificial intelligence represents both an opportunity and a responsibility, in the context of national reforms, digital transformation and the country’s European path.

The workshop programme included a keynote lecture delivered by Dr. Max Li, Professor from Columbia University, an academic panel and a policy roundtable. Discussions focused on the transformation of public institutions through advanced artificial intelligence systems, including Multi-AI Agent Systems, workforce adaptation, ethics and accountability in the use of AI, digital sovereignty, the development of inclusive digital infrastructure and bridging the gap between innovation and the implementation of public policies.

The event featured the participation of H.E. Amandeep Singh Gill, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, H.E. Egriselda López, Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations and Co-Chair of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, as well as representatives of UNITAR, the Republic of Tajikistan, Paraguay, Kenya, Estonia and experts from academia and the technology sector.

The workshop took place in the context of the first Global Dialogue on AI Governance, scheduled to be held in Geneva on 6 - 7 July 2026, and contributed to deepening discussions on the responsible, effective and inclusive use of artificial intelligence in support of public institutions and sustainable development.
